Welcome to our blog!

Komodo Dragon Base pulled South Africa out of our World Cup draw - which means we have taken on South Africa as our learning journey this half term.

Not only will we be focusing on the World cup and tracking South Africa's progress, but we will also be learning through International Arts week, Nelson Mandela and why people in different countries were and are treated differently.

Keep you eyes peeled on our blog as lots of exciting things will be happening!

Mr Harris' Visit

On Tuesday 9th March, Mr Harris came to visit us to talk about his old job, a journalist.

He worked for a magiziene called the DVD review, but now it is called the Blue ray DVD review due to human technology advancing constantly!

His visit was really fun and we had to write a review for this short film called "The traveller".In my opinion, I didn't really take to it. It was a silent film with music playing frantically all the way through it and animations for the characters.

Friday in Enterprise Week

This Friday in enterprise week we will be selling candles jars with a free candle. We have been making and designing candle jars all week. They look really pretty and Year Six made them. They are cheap and chearful. We have lots of things to make when it comes to the stall. We also have lots of jobs like people selling and setting up the stall.  Today we are selling are candle jars in the school hall. Every class in the school is taking part in Enterprise Week. We have people doing banners and prices.

Enter Prise Week!

On Wednesday the 10th March  2010 year 6 started to do our outline for our candle jars. The candle jars will be on the year 6 stall on Friday the 12th of March. The outlines took 15-20 minutes to dry. It was annoying.

We had so much fun doing them. We had to do the outline first because otherwise the paint would drip. Some of us made two some made three and even four!

Fair Trade Afternoon (Monday)

On Monday afternoon year 6 turned into cocoa farmers, chocolate factories, supermarkets, journalists and shoppers.

We had independent farmers who didn't earn much money. We had fair trade farmers who earned a bit more money. A fair trade chocolate factory who got very popular. We had a big chocolate factory who ended up not being very popular. The supermarket earned a fare amount of the money. The shoppers requested fair trade chocolate.

Our goal was to earn the most money in an hour, which to us was a very short period of time. The hour was split into 4 sets of 15 minutes. There was certain rules we had to follow, one was that we were only allowed to buy from certain people. The super market made a profit of 2 pounds, the cocoa farmers made 10 pounds and the big chocolate group made 12 pounds! We thought it was very fun and all of us would love to experience it again, although we know that people actualkly have to go through this.

It mst be horrible for people in real life.

It was a fun and enjoyable task.

Amazing Adverts and Perfect Painting!

In year 6 on Thursday 11th March we had a fabulous day!!! We were finshing off painting our jazzy jars with crazy candles and making some comical T.V adverts!!!  Each group had a go making adverts for our Jazzy Jars.

We practiced them a few times and then we took it in turns to perform them to the class, whilst Miss King filmed them to show on Friday in assembly!!!  We decided on some prices, the large ones were to be sold for £1, the medium ones for 75p, the small ones for 50p and the extra small ones for 25p.

World Book Day

Well - what haven't we done in Komodo Dragon Base?!

We started World Book Day by thinking about the fact that eveyone has the right to read and why some children or adults might not have this right.

This led onto recommending our favourite book character and writing a character profile for them. These are now up in Komodo Dragon Base.

In the afternoon we created a new character to join our favourite book. We had all kinds ranging from Fat Fred in Horrid Henry to Mr Twit's ex wife. Fab!

We finished up by reading some stories to year 2 and finished the day with a story called George and The Dragon.
